Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you may know my dear mum sadly passed away earlier this year. Her family and friends saw what a cruel disease dementia can be. We watched during the last 2 years of her life as a once very independent and proud lady, slowly changed to become very scared, confused and distressed as her dementia progressed.
The last 6 months of her life were spent in a care home. The staff there were so kind to my mum and during her stay we got to know many of the other residents, all of whom were suffering from dementia.
We could see the lives of these once proud people deteriorating in the same distressing way. On her many visits to hospital, (she had a fall and broke her femur), the wards seemed to be full of confused patients suffering from various forms of dementia.
We had a remarkable day on Christmas day where we felt Mum really did know who we were and she smiled and opened her presents (with help). It gave us a happy memory to treasure.
I am going to ride for 24 hours starting in Manchester and finishing in London, covering 250 miles. I will only be stopping for food, water and baby nappy rash lotion.
Please give generously to help to fund research into finding a future without dementia.
