Story
2022 marks the 30th anniversary of Vetlife Helpline!
As part of Vetlife’s celebrations, they have launched a ‘Vetlife Day’ supported by Virbac. This means that individuals can dedicate a day throughout 2022 to organise and take part in a fundraising event.
Recent studies show that almost 70% of vets have lost a colleague or peer to suicide. Studies also convey that 6 in 10 have sought professional help for their mental health. Suicide is proven to be more likely in both vets, and vet nurses, than among those in the general public.
Vetlife run a 24hr helpline and provide health and financial support to those in times of need. The charity provides all veterinary professionals with life changing, confidential support, free of cost.
Providing support free of charge does come at a cost, therefore, Vetlife rely heavily on donations and fundraising events in order to provide a supportive, and understanding service to those who need it most.
Research around mental health within in the veterinary sector highlights the importance of Vetlife’s work and the support that they can provide to those who may need it.
As Veterinary nurses, we both recognise and appreciate all of the hard work that individuals at Vetlife provide to those within the veterinary community. To show our appreciation, we would like to dedicate Saturday 1st October 2022 to climbing Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s
highest mountain at 1,038.6 metres!
It would be great if you could support us with this challenge, whether you would like to donate, or simply encourage us along the way.
Best Wishes,
Georgia and Hannah.
