Story
In January 2014, I fractured my spine as a result of a bad seizure. I'd already had many injuries prior to that due to my epilepsy. But that was the pinnacle of injuries...it was the one that made me homeless.
My epilepsy was too complex for any of my family to look after me or deal with. So my mum made a heartwrenching decision to not take me home from hospital. She thought I would be better off in a specialised care provider for people with epilepsy. At the time I agreed, I thought it would be great. I wanted to leave mum's anyway!
In the past 4 years I have lived in 3 different care homes. However, my closest friends are staff. I've always been unique in life, but I'm "different", I'm the square peg trying to fit in a round hole.
I have always made the best of everything, I do have residents at my current placement who are close friends, but it is still not my home. It's a roof, utilities, and comes with some extras!
There lies the difference... I HAVE a roof, I HAVE utilities, and I'm even more fortunate to have EXTRAS! I FEEL homeless, nowhere is home. However, there are so many people on the streets of Britain that do not deserve to be there. They really ARE homeless, and would give anything to have what I have.
People who have served for our country, left the military and found themselves homeless. The desperate families from the tragedy of Grenfell Tower. Just people in general who deserve a chance and yet are snubbed by so many fortunate people walking past...myself included.
So, as I can hold my hands up and say; "I have only ever bought a few 'big issue's' from people on the streets". I thought an epic challenge such as Vertical Rush, needed an epic change in people's thoughts and awareness.
So I am raising money for Shelter by running up a skyscraper in London!
With 42 floors and 932 steps, Vertical Rush is the ultimate skyscraper challenge. Leave the city below as you reach the heights of London’s iconic Tower 42. The view from the top has never been better.
I'm doing this on Thursday 15th March 2018. All donations are welcome. If you are a UK taxpayer please gift aid your donation. It won't cost you any extra money!
I WILL DOUBLE ANY DONATIONS MADE ON JUST GIVING.
This will be the toughest challenge I have ever done. The training plan is unbelievable, I have never pushed myself this hard.
It's one skyscraper, 42 floors, 932 steps, 1000 runners, and all to help MILLIONS of people across Britain.
Help me raise money for Shelter, they not only help people find a home, and get them off the streets. Shelter will also continue to give support to those who have just been given a home. They will support people with any problems, to make sure they ALL know that they AREN'T alone.
Please, please donate, and gift aid if you can.
