Better Pathways is a mental health charity supporting people struggling with mental health who have learning difficulties and disabilities, on their road to recovery. The charity provides employment support, range of education, training and volunteering opportunities across Birmingham and Solihull. The charity runs social enterprises including signwriting, printing, badge making, assembly and light engineering . A small woodcraft workshop sells items on its Etsy site.

Simon joined Better Pathways as new Trustee in September 2010. He chaired the finance subcommittee strengthening governance and financial reporting processes. He became the charity's much respected  Chair in 2018 and led the organisation with great skill and dedication. Simon stood down as Chair on 13th December 2021.

"Simon was a unifier and great at working with trustees and the leadership team. He made sure everyone had an equal voice. Simon was wise and fair. He was fun to work with. There was no such thing as failure, only learning. Simon calmed situations, he didn't explode them.

Simon leaves a lasting legacy embodied in the values we shared and that our charity will always live by. We will remember Simon not only for all that he did for us and for the professional and impactful way he did it: but also for his thoughtfulness, for his kindness and for his friendship.
