Thank you for taking part in the Watson's Malawi Partnership (WMP) RunWalkCycle to Malawi.
We may not be able to visit Malawi in person this year, but by supporting us here, we can still get to Malawi virtually and support our partners' reforestation programme. Every step or turn of the pedals you make takes us further along the 7,756 miles to Blantyre.
Just log in to your Strava account and click RunWalkCycle to Malawi
In the last twenty years alone, Malawi has lost 85% of its trees to people desperate for wood-fuel to cook and keep themselves warm. If this continues unchecked, the country will run out of biomass to sustain its population by 2025. That's just four years away!
Zomba TREEZ aims to mitigate the damage caused by the loss of the biomass and help reduce the effects of climate change in the Zomba area. By raising awareness, planting trees, promoting natural regeneration and preventing fires, Zomba TREEZ hopes to increase water retention, reduce soil erosion, provide clean air and water and protect and preserve Malawi’s biodiversity.
The following updates have been written by Nicola Porter (WMP Communications officer). I would like to thank her for researching such a fantastic journey.
