Story
Hello!
My name is Verna and I am a full-time food lover and passionate cook. I've spent the past 12 months living my lockdown life predominantly in the kitchen, and creating content for my food blog on Instagram @vernahungrybanana. This e-book (download link accessible after donation in the "thank you" email) was put together to fundraise for non-profit organisations working to support Asian communities, as we stand together to battle against the increase in Asian hate-crimes since COVID-19.
The latest figures have revealed that Hate Crimes against Asian people around the world have soared during the coronavirus outbreak. This includes assaults, robberies, harassment and criminal damage. Covid or no Covid, blame should not be apportioned to anyone or any nation, just as the virus does not discriminate in any manner or form.
For forty incredible years The London Chinese Community Centre has supported the UK's Chinese Community. Founded by Dr Abraham Lue, in the heart of London’s Chinatown, the centre strives to preserve and promote Chinese culture, arts and identity, whilst helping the community to better integrate into mainstream UK society.
The London Chinese Community Centre is essential in improving the lives and welfare of the Chinese community in London and beyond, including providing legal advice and mental health support to those with nowhere else to turn.
Of all the great causes, the LCCC is part of the Confronting Hate Crime Initiative with Protection Approaches (UK nationwide, with approx. 20 community organisations involved). This means its staff are trained in understanding hate crime and how to inform and support victims, which is crucial during a time like this.
COVID-19 has severely impacted the charity, which is an institution in London Chinatown, so your contributions will be directed here, to ensure that the good work of the centre can continue.
Thank you.
