Story
This November, I'm doing 80 Sit-Ups a day to raise money for GOSH Charity. Every day, more than 600 seriously ill children and young people from across the UK arrive at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Every day, doctors and nurses battle the most complex illnesses and conditions, and the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs. This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support to give seriously ill children the best chance to fulfil their potential.
This year we spent 73 days in GOSH with Flora. The care she received was unimaginable compared to some NHS experiences. The nurses, doctors and support staff are incredible people who make a real difference to lives every day.
I didn't get to see Flora being born, or to hold my baby in those first uncertain 10 days. I asked the surgeons to take a photo at the birth incase I never got to see my beautiful girl, without tubes, alive. We were given 54% chance.
The care we had from those around us made it that bit more bearable. The ability to have accommodation locally made such a difference, but it costs GOSH around £44/night. It was one less thing to worry about.
We will never be able to repay the care we had, but I need to start somewhere.
I will be doing the GOSH fundraiser challenge 80 sit ups a day throughout November.
I myself have had 4 abdominal surgeries, 3 in the past 21 months. Where this challenge would have once been easy, it will be a challenge for me now.
I would love to repay those first 10 nights. If you could even donate £2 or £3 it will all add up and the GOSH charity can help more parents in times that you never want to be in as a parent.
