Story
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page. My mother Vera Lord died in May 2018 due to Lung Cancer. So, to try and keep her memory alive and to raise money for a Lung Cancer Charity, I am taking part in the "I Love the 90's Virtual Run". So I'll be running throughout June to try and get to 26 miles (marathon) in 20 remaining June days! This year also mark's the 30th anniversary of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Because of support from events like the virtual run, over the past 30 years the charity has:
- Funded over £30 million in lung cancer research
- Laid the groundwork for lung cancer screening
- Funded the first ever lung cancer nurse specialist
- Performed the first ever lung cancer keyhole surgery
- Instigated and implemented the ban on smoking in public places and smoking in cars
- Helped thousands of people to stop smoking
- Funded and built the first lung cancer research centre in the UK
- Campaigned for life-lengthening treatments
- Raised awareness of lung cancer, challenged the misconceptions around the disease and improved attitudes
- Provided emotional, practical and financial support for thousands and thousands of people diagnosed and living with lung cancer. But there is so much more to be done.
