Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Well hello there. I’m Mrs. Robinson and in the lyrics of the song by Simon & Garfunkel, nothing could be more poignant as I know Jesus loves me. Anyway, I’m generally known as Val.

I was born in 1945 of a Southern Irish Catholic mother and a Jewish father of Austrian descent, hence my brilliant sense of humour. Believe me, to survive as the well balanced person, I trust I am, I needed one.

I am a devout, practicing Catholic and married my wonderful Catholic husband, Peter in 1968. He is now also my fulltime carer.

By the time our 1st son, Simon was born in 1973, the early stages of progressive, degenerative  Multiple Sclerosis were beginning to show and by the time our 2nd son, Martin was born in 1977 they were fairly well established.. To cut a very long boring story short, it was by getting no help from the medical profession at all and by being a very positive person, I had already established  my own very disciplined well focused regime which was paying dividends in keeping me motivated and focused. This consisted of spiritual meditation/prayer, yoga/exercise and diet.

As a result, after bringing up our 2 sons I returned to work in 1991 at the Jobcentre in Rayleigh, Essex They were so impressed with not only my previous experience and qualifications, but more importantly the efforts I was making to return to full   employment, in spite of my disabilities, so they gave me a job with them and I’ve never looked back, it’s been so rewarding.

In 2001 I transferred to the Jobcentre Customer Service Centre in Southend, Essex where I still work though since last August, on a semi-retired basis and long may it continue as this gives me the confidence to lead a full and productive life in the service of others. This extends to other areas of my life as in spite of being considerably disabled and wheelchair dependant, I have the ability to lead a very full, amazing social life.

Being part of HCPT plays a very important role in the privileges I receive and that is why I must help to raise funds for HCPT so that those with handicaps of any kind are able to enjoy a short period of care and respite through this organization.  Please refer to the HCPT website www.hcpt.org.uk for further information of this wonderful organization’s work.

On the 11th and 12th February 2012 there is the annual HCPT fundraising walk in Lourdes.

This is a planned route of either 20K, 30K or 50K, and it is to raise funds for HCPT as a whole and, in particular, our local HCPT Group No 532, Wickford, who will be taking 20 people with disabilities to Lourdes for a week in October of this year.

I don’t know how many steps, if any, I can take but I am determined, with Peter’s help and my trusty chair, to complete at least 30K over the 2 days.

Please offer your support by sponsoring me on this HCPT walk by donating through the following website www.justgiving.com/Valerie-Robinson-HCPT-Group532

Thank You & God Bless,

Val Robinson xx
