Story
The Avon Riding Centre accommodates for disabled riders with a range of capabilities and riding ability and is in great need of 5 new horses just to keep working at the level they are operating now, with another 200 people currently on their waiting list.
Horse riding can benefit riders with autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, cerebral vascular accident, development delay, Down’s syndrome, learning or language disabilities, multiple sclerosis and injuries resulting from an accident.
There are significant physical benefits from therapeutic riding, the warmth and three dimensional movement of the horse is transmitted through the riders body gradually making it more relaxed and supple strengthening core stability, reducing spasms and allowing improved balance, posture and coordination.
Riding can also have strong recreational and psychological benefits – freedom of movement, increased confidence and self esteem, taking control, decision making, building relationships and improving communication skills as well as having fun!
The Avon Riding Centre offer a great service to the local community and that is why I decided to fundraise for this great charity when Nordic walking the Bristol 10k.
My daughter Chloe rides there in their sister organisation for able riders. Horses and instructors are fabulous and she enjoys every minute of it.
