Story
To celebrate Vacherin's 15th year of operation, we are cycling 700 miles in 7 days in September 2018 for Kahalia Luminary Bakery - a fabulous charity based in East London with whom we have been working with for the past year.
On September 8, 2018, a team from Vacherin will take on the challenge of cycling 700 miles in 7 days from 'our home' of Vacherin (Hatton Garden HQ) to 'the home' of Vacherin located in the Jura region on the French / Swiss border near Lake Geneva. We will ride through Brittany, Loire, Burgundy, The Centre and finally the Jura region on our epic ride.
The team is Phil Roker, Tom Rule, Simon Macfarlane, Lewis Linley, Paul Matthews, Hamish Thorn, Ula Bardovskaja, Lawrence Newsham and Simon William Smith.
Our chosen charity is The Luminary Bakery, who support social enterprise in East London. They offer opportunities for women who have experienced social or economic disadvantage to build their skills and improve their futures. In 2017, Luminary opened their own café in Stoke Newington and launched a stall at Borough Market. They also launched a mentoring scheme that Vacherin took part in, pairing professional female volunteers with bakery graduates to help them with their next steps.
The £15k we raise will support funding a large project to transform the current teaching room to a high spec professional kitchen. This, in turn, will inspire the Luminary women and ensure they are equipped as well as possible for continued work in a professional kitchen.
