Story
This summer, a small group of United World College Adriatic alumni kickstarted a pilot refugee service project together with Red Cross Udine.
We spent a week helping a camp of 180 Afghan, Pakistani and other Middle East young refugee men.
It was a moving and humbling experience.
This was just the start, and we would like to grow this into something sustainable over the long term.
We have created this page to raise money for UWCAD to support its Creative, Active, Social service program.
The funds raised will go directly to our college in Italy to enable our students and alumni to do even more with the outreach of this program, which already includes over twenty individual social service projects. This includes helping the elderly, disabled, homeless and other humanitarian work, teaching English to youths and adults in our wider community, first-aid, and multicultural presentations to local children.
As a direct outcome of our pilot project, a new long-term relationship has been established between UWCAD and Red Cross Udine.
Another direct outcome of this project - a new social service project will be offered to all alumni as a option to take part in every year's college reunion, from 2017 onwards.
Will you help us do something a little bit amazing, please? Some of these services use fairly cheap materials, e.g. stationery, while other services need considerably more resources.
Building up funds for College to support its CAS program means that for each of these 20-plus social service projects, students can do more with their service, for their service. A richer multicultural presentation can be mounted for the children. Newer textbooks and audiovisual resources can be purchased to help teach the neighbouring locals English. Students can travel to refugee camps further afield from college as these funds can help with fuel costs. A little "food fair" showcasing international foods and drinks can be organised for the elderly and disabled on college grounds.
The creativity and initiative of our students can really come to life in their service, the better-supported they are.
Just five, ten euros can make an actual difference. Will you help us?
Thank you so much for your support!
Yours gratefully, the UWCAD 2016 reunion alumni volunteers
