On February 6, 2023, two massive earthquakes of magnitudes 7.8 and 7.5 struck South East Turkey and North West Syria. The first quake hit at 4:17 a.m. as people were asleep in their homes, followed by several aftershocks as large as 6.5 magnitude minutes later. The affected areas include Kayseri, Malatya, Adana, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, and Hatay in Turkey. In addition, tremors were felt in Cyprus, Egypt, and Lebanon.
Over 7,000 people have been reported injured in the affected provinces in Turkey, with many more trapped in the rubble after thousands of homes and city infrastructure collapsed. Ongoing rescue efforts are underway to save lives.
ISRA-UK is on the ground in Turkey, providing emergency shelters/tents, blankets, winter clothes, hot meals, and food packs. Time is of the essence, and support is needed to save as many lives as possible.
