Story

Hey everyone,

I took this on because at the time it seemed completely un-doable.

I loathe cold water, haven't swum since I was 13, cycled since I was 10 and have never run more than 10km.  Couple that with the fact I am now a full-time Dad during the day and I gig every night, it seemed nigh on impossible with no time for training. But when the boys floated the idea at some A.M. hour in a pub , on being instantly overlooked and not even invited to potentially join, my dormant sporting ego awoke and I took great offense. With a complete bypass of my brain, in one immediate drunken alpha-male reflex I declared I was in. It seemed a long way off.

It's now in less than two weeks, and things have changed.

I have swum 1.8km in a lake on more than one occasion, borrowed a bike without stabilisers, and now run more than 10km. I've cut off all my hair for streamline efficiency and so I don't have to carry the hum off the lake around with me and into the marital bed. I've finally managed to fit into the wetsuit I was loaned, I've started wearing lycra in supermarkets like those people I used to silently judge and I've developed an amazing addiction to caffeine gels whether I'm exercising or not. (I like the taste and the buzz in equal measure.)

It's going to be ridiculously brutal and simultaneously possibly quite boring, seeing as we're not allowed to listen to music and podcasts- although I've never competed in anything longer than a sensible two-halves of rugby, so the latter is probably woefully inaccurate armchair speculation.

I'm determined to finish it however and would love your support.

It's for an incredible cause and although I appreciate a lot of people brilliantly now raise money all the time for a load of incredible causes, believe me the odds are truly stacked against me.

I am not an Iron Man, or a Triathlon type guy- tho' I soon shall be. I would appreciate any amount of financial love however small.
