Story
University of Leicester Racing is a team of dedicated student engineers designing and building a formula-style electric race car to compete at Silverstone in July at
.Having been the third highest placed UK electric vehicle (EV) team at Formula Student 2016, the team have set the ambitious aim of being the highest placed UK EV team at this years' Formula Student 2017, along with being the first current UK EV team to pass electrical scrutineering at Formula Student and race on the track.
To reach our goals we need your help to raise £3000 to cover the cost of entering the competition, materials and the running costs associated with manufacturing and running an electric racing car. Additionally, the Faculty of Science and Engineering has kindly agreed to match the £3000 raised, so for every £1 you donate, the team will receive £2. Any extra money raised will be kept aside to cover any last minute purchases and later will be invested in the future of the team.

In 1994, my father took me on his lap when he was watching a Formula One race. What was happening on the TV screen captivated me in an instant and literally left me shivering with excitement and, perhaps unusually for a toddler, perfectly mum for as long as the race went on.
Ever since I have been a motorsport enthusiast with every fibre of my body. However, limited funds have prevented me from taking up the sport in earnest. Instead, I resorted to occasional trips to the local karting track, where I managed to hone my racing skills year after year. This practice has proven to be enough to convince my teammates of my skills behind the wheel, and I have been picked as UoL Racing's driver for the dynamic events at Silverstone Circuit in July.
Currently, however, my day job with the team as Communication Manager comes first. As such I let the public, especially our fans, media and potential sponsors, know what the team is currently working on. This means keeping our website and social media profiles updated, formulating texts for any official team releases, and formulating communication guidelines and tips for future team members.
UoL Racing gave me a first opportunity to work for and with a racing team, something I would like to do in my professional future as well. So far, my time with the team has been incredibly interesting, and I have learned a lot about the work involved in keeping such a team running.
However, no racing team can work successfully in the long run without a solid financial backing. Next to goods, services, and money provided by our sponsors, our team mainly relies on financial support from its fans.
Therefore I would like to kindly ask anybody who reads this message to consider donating to University of Leicester Racing. Any amount is appreciated and will help us on our route to Formula Student 2017 at Silverstone.
