Story
The Race Across America and The United Eight
The United Eight is an eight-person cycling team who, in June 2008, will compete in the world’s toughest bike race. The Race Across America is a 3,000-mile non-stop journey from California to Atlantic City. We will cross 15 state borders, climb an approximate total of 108,000 feet (four times the altitude of Everest) and we intend to do all this inside seven days. We will do it for charity, we will push ourselves to extreme limits and we hope to remain friends by the end of it.

We are not professional or elite cyclists but neither are we simply amateurs trying our best. We have all done endurance events before but never something quite like this. We are an international group from a variety of backgrounds, occupations and ages. We are united on two things: 1) our fascination with the challenge that RAAM represents: it’s an American dream thing; 2) our determination to raise as much money as we can for CLIC Sargent, the children’s cancer charity. We chose CLIC Sargent because one of our team, Alex Waters, is himself a cancer survivor.
