Story

I have decided to take a short holiday from my business un_rap, so I'm going on a 300 mile zero waste hike!

I am combining my love of Cornwall and my passion to protect nature by walking the entire coast of Cornwall without producing any waste. My aim is to prove that our beaches can be enjoyed without the need for litter and single-use plastics.

My route is The South West Coast Path. The Cornwall section of this scenic route is 300 miles long and will take at least 3 weeks to complete. I will be camping along the way and carrying everything I need on my back; including zero waste food & toiletries.

I aim to raise £600 and all proceeds will be donated to the Cornwall based charity, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS). They are an environmental charity that focus on improving and protecting the UK's coastlines.

Walking 300 miles is going to be a huge physical and psychological challenge for me. Walking 300 Zero Waste will be even harder. 3 years ago I walked 500 miles across Spain refusing all single-use plastics and from it came un_rap. Lets see what comes out of this one...

My plan is to prepare the majority of my food in advance, using my zero waste shop and local, fresh, unpackaged veg. I will make meals at home, dehydrate them, pack them in reusable containers and reheat them on the trail. This will eliminate as much waste as possible throughout the supply chain. Toiletries will also be eco friendly, e.g. bamboo toothbrush, cardboard deodorant stick, compostable plasters, etc. Any food or supplies I do pick up along the way will be unpackaged, or in paper or tin that can be easily recycled or composted.

I am hoping to highlight the amount of litter and pollution on our beaches, whilst showcasing solutions to the problem. Also, reminding us to slow down,  go for a walk and appreciate nature.
