Story
The Andrew Simpson Foundation was inspired by Olympic Gold and Silver medalist Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson MBE. Their mission is to transform lives through sailing. Absolutely everything They do is driven by their belief that all young people have the ability to excel and succeed in life and work. They believe that the challenges of sailing and watersports do this by promoting health and well-being whilst also building essential life skills. These skills then enable young people to progress through education and into work.
The Andrew Simpson Foundation's mission is very much aligned with UKLA's goal to promote sailing.
Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson was a successful young Laser sailor in the RYA Youth Squad and in 1999 he finished 5th in the Laser Standard World Championships in Melbourne. He went on to compete at the highest level in the Finn, narrowly missing out on Olympic selection, before joining Iain Percy to campaign the Star, where they won Olympic medalsBeijing 2008 andLondon 2012.
In the 50th Anniversary of the ILCA Association, the UKLA is thrilled to be supporting the Andrew Simpson Foundation and the important work they do.
Thoughtout the season we will work together with the Foundation to raise their profile and funds to enable more young people to take on sailing.
