Story
Hi there, "oli otya!". I'm Harry and this summer I'll be travelling to Uganda with the charity Play Action International as part of a team of enthusiastic volunteers who all share one aim - to enrich the lives of underprivileged school children through play. Our combined contribution by working alongside local craftspeople will see the transformation of the area around a local school into an inspired, colourful and engaging playground for children to enjoy and to immerse themselves in their own playful imagination. I am thankful for this opportunity to beneficially use my privileges of education, creativity and practical skills to improve those who lack them within these poverty-stricken communities.
Whatever the breaktime adventures, the action of play is often taken for granted in the modern, privileged world. The contrasting consequential effects of international inequalities of play provision on quality of life in local communities highlights the importance of play in healthy individual and social development especially in early life. This is why it is our mission to improve play facilities, encourage practical and engaging learning and simply make breaktime more enjoyable in local communities in Uganda. We truly believe that this project will improve the quality of life of so many school children.
In order to fund building materials and construction costs which make this project possible, I openly invite you to support my fundraising efforts to achieve this. Alongside my two mates, Rory and Morgan, we aim to complete the challenge of climbing the national three peaks within 24 hours shortly before our trip to Africa. This will involve meticulous and thorough planning that will ensure the effective navigation during the climbs of the three largest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon respectively. We'd love you to be part of our adventure; albeit sat snug within the confines of your cosy home whilst we power through potentially all weathers that nature throws in attempt to impede our progress!
Imagine the smile of a child who feels the thrill of the swing for the first time. Imagine the excitement to share this with their friends. Imagine the support to their physical and mental wellbeing and how this will encourage confidence, growth, physical, psychological and social development through the language they know best - Play!
Isn't this something you'd like to be a part of? If so, I encourage you to support my endeavours to make this possible. Not only will the refurbished playground be a gateway to a land of fun and excitement for children today, we will also help to leave a legacy that will be sustained for the children of the future.
