Story
Respond provides holistic care to people seeking asylum and refugees in North Central London and beyond.
What does Respond do?
Respond is an integrated health service for people of all ages seeking asylum and refugees who may be facing serious mental and physical health problems. Complex multiple health and social issues are addressed for those who often experience significant barriers in accessing health and social care.
From our work so far we have found that 90% of service users have underlying health problems that Respond has helped to link into standard NHS care. 44% of people seen have been treated for infections and 50% have significant mental health concerns requiring additional support.
What will the money be used to fund?
Transport costs for vulnerable people living in precarious circumstances can significantly restrict the opportunity to access essential healthcare. With this money we will be able to offer financial support to service users in the form of a pre-paid travel card.
Additionally:
£30,000 will fund one peer advocate, with lived experience of being an asylum seeker or refugee to work with us in the service
£40,000-£60,000 will fund a clinical psychologist for a year
£50,000 will fund an art therapist for a year.
