Story

I am the Nurse Consultant for an amazing team who continued to work really hard in very difficult conditions whilst the building work was being completed and still, had a smile on their faces. I wholeheartedly believe in every single one of these amazing staff that I work with and I hope that you can donate to our cause.

We face an exciting period of transition in BSUH, whereby we are committed to working hard for the community whilst we improve your much loved hospital. We have a great vision of how our hospital will look and how we can continue to provide gold standard care to you, the public, our patients.

Since opening the New Urgent Care Centre, patients say how much more comfortable, bright and welcoming it is compared to the dingy, unwelcoming and cold environment we had before.

We have made the area bigger, put in comfortable chairs and yet, finding the money for all the little extras in these very difficult financial times can be challenging. But we want to do more! Much more!

By donating to our Just giving page you ensure that your donation goes straight into the urgent care project and will be used for a variety of things.

For example, we want to:

  • Put up magazine racks and notice boards.
  • Health promotion information
  • Put in AV equipment - include programmes which will inform the community of services and alternatives to A&E
  • Raise money for a Tannoy to go through the whole of the Emergency department which will help us improve communication, streamline patient care and transform the way that staff are utilized when it is really busy. We would be able to direct staff immediately to the area they are needed, without leaving other areas uncovered. (this is the biggest wish of all!)
  • Put up electronic signage which will give the waiting room up to the minute information on waiting times
  • Fund the decoration of a room for patients with Dementia, learning disabilities
  • we want to decorate a room so that patients at the end of their life can be with their family and friends which is peaceful and allows for a peaceful, dignified and respectful environment, away from the noise and chaos of the main emergency department.

Although our target is just £2000 we obviously would love to raise more. but thought that we would start with a 'small wish list'.  A&E nurses are creative and resourceful, and will work with the budget of funds raised to get the most value for both improving patient care and ensuring value for money

This money could also be used for sponsoring the Emergency Nurse Practitioners and the A&E nurses for further training that is not included in the hospital budget. Their training and development days are often undertake in their days off, without pay, but the sponsorship of their study day would be invaluable. These training days all work towards making sure they are up to date, current with new innovations in healthcare and to ensure that they bring the very latest in evidence based care,  to you, the patient.

We really want to make the Urgent care centre a place to be comfortable in, to enable you to be well informed whilst you wait. To be entertained, with TV, audio and reading material.

We want you to be well informed by having the right information available for you to make informed health choices.

We also want to make healthcare accessible to all and are working to produce information in many common languages along with making our department dementia and learning disability friendly.

As you are all aware, the NHS must be mindful of how they spend their budget, and BSUH are no different. You may feel that it is not right for us to ask for money, however, the fact remains, that healthcare budgets are prioritised for health, and this Just giving page will allow us to still do that, whilst also making sure that your worst day ever, just got better when you visit the Urgent care centre.

Thank you so much for reading and considering our plea for help. Even if you can only donate a small amount, it all adds up, and in the end, great things happen!!
