Story
Hello and thank you for visiting my page!
My name is Tyrone, and for those of you who do not know me I am a serving
Police Officer with Thames Valley Police.
I am no stranger to charity events, having ran the last few Reading Half
Marathons in riot gear for the wonderful charity Care of Police Survivors
(COPS). I couldn't really think of anything to top that, when it suddenly came
to me on a random hike in Wales.
I am planning to walk the length of the United Kingdom, from Land's End in Cornwall to John O'Groats at the very tip of Scotland. It is approximately 950 - 1000 miles depending on the route I end up taking (I am sure there will be random detours along the way to admire the beautiful countryside!). The walk normally would take around three months, but as I could not take that much time off as Annual Leave, I am aiming to power through it in just over a month. That equates to walking around 25-30 miles each day, with no rest days - which will be by far the hardest thing I have ever attempted mentally and physically.
I'm undertaking this walk completely unsupported and taking with me only what will fit in my rucksack; living, cooking and sleeping outside and slumming it in my one man tent. There is sure to be blood, sweat, pain and many, many blisters along the way! I'll be posting regular updates on here, as well as maintaining a blog, photo album and Instagram page, which will all be up and running by the time I start the walk.
This is all to raise funds for the wonderful charity Mind – specifically for its Blue Light Programme – which provides resources, advice and support for members of all of the emergency services. They also train blue light champions in the various services, to provide peer-to-peer support to colleagues in need.
Mental ill-health is something that can affect anybody at any time; especially within the emergency services, where we are exposed to horrendous experiences which stay locked up within the confines of our minds and seldom shared or spoken about with others. I want to raise awareness for this issue, help to tackle the stigma around mental health issues and promote the great service that Mind offer to our extended emergency service family, in addition to the great service they provide to the public.
Please donate whatever you can for this great cause. I am self-funding this trek, so 100% of the money donated will be going to the charity where it can be put to use.
And remember, it is ok not to be ok. If you are worried about your well-being and mental health, then please visit Mind’s website for advice and help. You do not have to go through it alone. #itsoktonotbeok
