Tynedale Chernobyl Childrens Lifeline 2010

Last year the Tyne Valley Link organised with the Chernobyl children's lifeline charity for a group of children to visit the UK. This proved to be just the tonic for them as their lives have been blighted by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
The picture to the left is the group of children with their translator at Star bowling, Royal Quays.
Whilst they were here they took part in an action-packed programme of events. They enjoyed: horse riding, canoeing , cycling, swimming, visiting local museums and not so popular a visit to the Dentist!
It is estimated the month-long visit to the district will add at least two years to the children’s 30-year life expectancy, thanks to the respite from the background radiation levels that still affect their country.
A group of us are doing a number of activities throughout 2009/2010 including
- bag packing at a local supermarket
- cycling the Coast to Coast (Whitehaven to Tynemouth)
- a sponsored walk
- and a social event early in 2010.
