Story
The Tyne & Wear Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association has launched an emergency appeal for donations to maintain their vital support for people living with MND, a terminal illness.
Local people with MND turn to the Tyne & Wear branch for advice, face-to-face meetings and importantly can apply for financial grants to help improve their quality of life.
But with the coronavirus pandemic cancelling or postponing fundraising events, volunteers at the Tyne & Wear Branch are determined to find other ways to raise money to continue supporting local people facing the devastating illness.
The Tyne and Wear local Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND Association), an independent charity with a National Office in Northampton and over 90 local Branches and Groups nationwide. As a local Branch of MND Association we have the sole aim of serving all those in the Tyne and Wear area who are affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This includes people with MND, their carers, family and friends.
We exist to:
· Provide support for people affected by MND
· Raise money to help people affected by MND
· Influence policy and decision-makers within their communities, to the benefit of people affected by MND
Around 80 people are living with this brutal disease in Tyne & Wear. MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease which affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement and eventually leaves people unable to move, communicate or breathe. It kills a third of people within a year of diagnosis and half within two years. There is
no cure.
Please help us keep this support going during this healthcare crisis.
