Story
Everyone is at risk for developing cancer, and chances are that you or someone you know has been touched by it in some way. In my family, I am so fortunate to be able to say my father and grandmothers are all survivors, but I have known many who have not
been so lucky. During my father’s battle, I remember vividly feeling powerless to help and wishing that in some way I could physically fight with him. Although I could not take his treatments for him then, my sister and I were determined for him to know the fight was not his alone and we were in it together. Thankfully we were able to catch his
cancer relatively early, which I believe made all the difference in his battle. Unlike my father's cancer, ovarian cancer is one of the most difficult cancers to detect, often not showing symptoms until the later stages when it is too late. This must change. While I may not be susceptible to ovarian cancer myself, my mother, my sister, my
grandmothers, and all the incredible women in my life are. So I am so honored and proud to be running the 2023 New York City Marathon as a member of Team Tina’s Wish, to raise money in support of their mission, and to have the opportunity to battle ovarian cancer on behalf of women the only way I can.
