Story

We are absolutely thrilled that two of our wonderfully brilliant teachers at Turtle Tots Plymouth & West Devon (Calli & Emily) are bravely hanging up their swimsuits and the comfort of a pool to jump out of a plane and sky dive 15000ft on 10th June 2018!! All for an amazing cause of course…... Plymouth's NICU parental accommodation campaign 'Keep Me Close'.

We already give a percentage of all class fees to this amazing charity and now aim to raise a whopping £1000!

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth cares for babies born from around the South West who have either been born prematurely or with other life threatening illnesses. As the NICU has the highest level of expertise and equipment, the ward cares for babies from all over the South West, which are often transferred from other hospitals for a higher level of care when needed.

Due to the nature of the babies cared for on the unit, parents are encouraged to remain close by. To enable more parents to have this opportunity the hospital has set up the ‘Keep Me Close’ campaign, which aims to redevelop a new area of the hospital to provide the parents of the babies with that all important home from home, giving the families space and privacy that these times require.

It has long been the dream of the hospital staff to provide better accommodation for the parents of the babies they care for and to provide a greater number of rooms to enable all “out of area” parents to remain on site for the duration of their baby’s care. These parents are dealing with an incredibly stressful time and creating a "home from home" would really help to take away a small amount of this stress by enabling life to remain as normal as possible under the circumstances.

The Keep me Close campaign ( all dealt with under the general charitable umbrella of the Plymouth Hospitals General Charity with Registered Charity Number 1048679) has been working tirelessly to raise enough funds to redevelop a new area of the hospital and we want to help them achieve their goal of giving the families the space and privacy that these times require.
