On Monday February 6th at 4.17am, a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Southern Turkey followed by subsequent 6.4 and 6.5 magnitude earthquakes.
These deadly quakes were also felt in Syria and Lebanon.
🔴 More than 5,000 deaths and the death toll expected to rise eightfold.
🔴 15,000+ injured
🔴 6,217 buildings collapsed
Many buildings collapsed including residential buildings where many families were sleeping due to the early hours of the morning.
This is definitely one of the largest earthquakes experienced there for hundreds of years, Martin Mai, professor of geophysics at King Abdullah University told Al Jazeera. Large damage and local devastation has to be expected, he said.
Islamic Relief teams in Turkey, Syria and Lebanon are on the ground now.
