Story
On Friday 22nd October, we are challenging ourselves to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Starting at 7am, we will be looking to complete circa 24 miles of non-stop walking (typically taking the average person 8-14 hours).
We need your support.
We are raising money for an amazing local charity called Sunshine and Smiles. They provide a support network in Leeds for children and young people who have Downs Syndrome and their families. This is a charity that is not only a great cause but extremely close to our hearts.
How Can You Help?
Sponsorship - Every little bit helps and all donations goes towards Sunshine and Smiles.
Share & Comment - Let people know what we are doing and help spread the good work of the cause.
A personal note from our Head of Talent and Marketing, Laura Owens:
I was extremely touched to hear that "Sunshine and Smiles" had been picked as our charity of choice this year.
They have been and are still a huge support to my family after I gave birth to my little boy last year. They gave advice, included us in Downs Syndrome specific support groups and supported us through difficult times. I couldn't have coped through the past year without them.
When you find out your baby has Downs Syndrome, it can be an extremely lonely and scary time. You hear about all the issues such as learning difficulties, hearing problems, eye problems, stunted growth, heightened risk of leukaemia and heart problems. You also become acutely aware of the stigma that can be publicly attached to it.
Our fears were realised when Alex developed infantile spasms (a life threatening condition which his Downs Syndrome made him susceptible for) and when we found out he will need heart surgery to mend an open valve.
Without Sunshine and Smiles, we would have felt completely isolated. They allowed us to feel part of a community and, throughout all the issues, they helped us remember that our little boy was still just that, our perfect little boy.
I can't thank them enough but if I can give back in anyway, I am glad I am able to start doing it now.
