Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
A lot of you will no doubt already know my story but for those that don't here's a quick summary.
In the 'summer' of 2008 I was competing in my road modified Fiesta XR2 on the island of Anglesey, racing around the International Circuit but lost control of the car in dreadful weather conditions, finishing up travelling backwards into a barrier at around 80mph. After coming round in the medical centre a short while later, I was airlifted to Bangor Hospital for diagnosis, where it transpired I had broken vertabrae in my neck.
Following expert care by all concerned I made a full recovery, and although some would view 15 weeks with a halo on as traumatic, the end results are well worth some short term discomfort.
After this period it was suggested I may like to try a half marathon, as a goal to help get my fitness back (thanks Lindsey!) Having not really run since school this could be quite a challenge but I agreed anyway. Then once completed, the same person suggested a full marathon as my next target, having herself gained an entry to the London Marathon. Yet again I agreed and soon after got chatting with a lady at the gym who had run 10! A useful person to know then!
So that led to my first marathon in 2011, 2 more were planned for 2012 but both were cancelled due to weather conditions, Stratford and New York. Undeterred I ran Brighton Marathon earlier this year and managed to knock 30mins off my previous time, completing the course in 3hr13.
So I'm heading back to New York to hopefully run the marathon officially this time, again raising money for this very worthwhile cause.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me, I have gone from needing help to walk to the end of the hospital ward to running marathons and I've never been fitter. I've also made some fabulous friendships along the way, the lady with 10 marathons under her belt has become a great friend indeed.
Once again thank you.
