Story

I've only been running about a year, having only ever run up the stairs in the past.  My local running club were organising a 6 week couch 2 5K course, after much persuasion by a friend I took the plunge.  Everyone was in the same boat, nervous, apprehensive and afraid of failure.  I was greeted by a group of friendly, supportive run leaders, who with their patience have given me  the confidence to take on the Great North Run.

I have now become good friends with these leaders along with all those
other people that signed up on that cool April evening at a park in
Loughborough.
Over the 6 weeks I ran for 1 minute, then 10, progressing to 5k – 3 miles. It wasn’t easy and still isn’t, the hardest part is getting out the door when pouring down or ridiculous hot temperatures, but with consistent runs 2-3 times weekly the 3 miles became 6 miles – 10k.  I am not the fastest and will never be the first over the line but the feeling of overwhelming pride and satisfaction when you finish is immense.  I'm hooked........

For my own personal goal I have signed up to run The Great North Run on Sunday 9th September this year.  This is a ½ marathon – 13.1 miles.  I have stepped up my training and with a couple of friends for support am slowly upping my mileage.  I can do this !

Please support me by  donating a few pounds to my chosen charity Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young Adults.

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, Rainbows is a place where life-limited children and their families can find care and support. The incredible team of people help relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, support parents and siblings through their bereavements and care for children until the end.

Rainbows is a place where children can laugh, play and make every precious moment count, while families already bereaved are supported through the toughest times. Because of you and other supporters like you, a family will be able to make special memories they will cherish forever and bring a smile to their child’s face as they laugh and play.

Please help brighten short lives - thank you
