WHAT HAPPENED?
In October 2021, I ran the 35th Marathon des Sables - 250km over 6 days in the Sahara Desert. I took on this race, known as the toughest on the planet, to raise money for a charity called Walkoncemore. It raises money and awareness for spinal cord injury (SCI) victims; it seemed somehow fitting to run for those that couldn't walk. SCI robs the victim of their mobility, and is almost always permanent. It could happen to anyone, at any time. The money that I'm raising will go towards research for the condition.
Sadly, I succumbed to a mixture of heatstroke and food poisoning on Day 3 of the race, as temperatures hit 56C. More than 50% of competitors were forced to drop out - making it the hardest event in the race's history.
WHAT NOW?
I want to continue raising money for WalkOnceMore, and I want to push myself. Therefore, on Friday 6th May 2022, I'm going to embark on a 24 hour run. I'll be running, jogging, then likely walking or crawling around London nonstop, trying to see how far I can push myself. I'm intending to move from 7am on Friday through to 7am on Saturday, non-stop. More details to follow.
