Story
I intend to do a tandem skydive in order to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK, in loving memory of my wonderful mum, Theresa Maley, who died from undiagnosed bowel cancer on 28 February 2005.
A parachute jump is something I've longed to do for years and it's now on my "bucket list"! At the same time, what better cause could I support than one which might prevent another mum dying too early from this disease? (http://www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk/home/support-us/take-part-in-our-events/uk-challenges/skydive-for-bowel-cancer-uk)
Sometimes known as "the silent killer" bowel cancer is the second most common cancer in women after breast cancer and the third most common cancer after prostate and lung cancer.
If bowel cancer is diagnosed in its earliest stages, the chances of surviving for a further five years is 90%, and a complete cure is usually possible. However, bowel cancer that is diagnosed in its most advanced stage only has a five-year survival rate of 6% and a complete cure is unlikely. If mum's cancer had been diagnosed before she was too weak to undergo surgery, she may still have been with us today.
I would like to raise a minimum of £400 for Bowel Cancer UK (http://www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk/home/bowel-cancer).
Obviously I would like to raise as much as possible so I'd really appreciate it if you could donate anything, large or small!
All being well, I will to do the jump at Cambridge Airfield close to the world-renowned City of Cambridge and only 14 miles from Newmarket, the historical home of horse racing. Approximately 60 miles northeast of London)(http://cambridgeairport.com/contact-us/location-map.php).
I had intended to do the jump in September 2011, but have had to postpone to a later date. When I have decided on a date, I will publish (this depends on funds raised!)
With love and thanks
