I am running the BUPA 10k in London for the Alzheimer`s society. Dementia is one of the main causes of disability in later life, ahead of cancer, stroke and cardiovascular disease. Unfortunately it is not recognised as such in the UK and recent reports say that there is a massive difference in the spending on cancer research and the spending on dementia research - for every pound spent on dementia, twelve pounds are spent on researching cancer.

The report also suggested one of the causes for this may be that most people have had personal experience at one stage or another of someone they know suffering from Cancer or Heart disease.Alzheimer`s is usually hidden away in care homes!
