Story
Mind is an incredible charity that has been on the forefront of breaking down Mental Health stigma, raising awareness of mental health conditions and supporting those who may be struggling with poor mental health.
Here's just some of what Mind do:
- Provide direct support to those suffering with poor mental health through 125 local Mind charities.
- Run their Info and Legal line for those with non-urgent concerns about their mental health, the mental health of a loved one or have any legal questions.
- Provide a metric sh*t-tonne of resources on everything from advice to employers, to information on legal rights and support to those helping loved-ones through poor MH.
What is possibly most important of all is that they advocate on behalf of those with poor mental health for better access to support, fairer treatment and an end to stigma and discrimination.
Greater understanding and acceptance of poor Mental Health is something I care about a lot. My Dad had PTSD and a lot of my childhood was trying to understand how something I couldn't see had such a big impact on his daily life. I also saw how he got better through treatment and with a supporting mental health service around him.
I was lucky that he raised me to talk about these things, to ask questions and to try to be understanding. That meant when I also started experiencing poor mental health as a teenager, I knew it was not only something I could talk about, but had to talk about. At some point or another, that attitude probably saved my life and helped me on the road to recovery, the same way it helped my Dad, the same way it could help countless others.
That attitude is what Mind embodies and fights for. Anyway you can help them do that is very much appreciated by many people, including me. If you choose to help Mind by donating to this fundraiser, you get the added benefit of knowing your money is buying me embarrassing myself. Win win all round.
