Story
In September 2018 I will be pushing myself to the limit in a bid to complete Ironman Italy. It promises to be a punishing day consisting of a 2.4 mile sea swim followed by a 112 mile cycle and then a running a full 26.2 mile marathon. My hope is that through my endeavours I will be able to raise enough money to place a public access defibrillator in a heated cabinet near to my son's school in Osbaston. The school are very enthusiastic about the project and will be doing some fund raising of their own in order to contribute. I will be going into the school to speak to the children about what I am doing and hoping to inspire the children to embrace a healthy, athletic lifestyle.
I will be fundraising through the Welsh Hearts charity who are currently trying to increase the number of defibrillators in Monmouthshire and in schools in Wales. By working with them we can add GiftAid to donations and we won't have to pay VAT on the equipment. Less than one in ten people will survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest. But survival rates can be increased significantly if a Defibrillator is used and CPR is performed. That's why they've made it their mission to ensure communities all over Wales have access to Defibrillators and are trained in how to use them. They also provide heart screenings to 16-40 year olds, to detect life threatening heart conditions that often go undetected. Their fundamental goal is to save lives in Wales and I hope that by putting in the training I can complete the race and inspire people to donate to this great cause.
I will endeavour to keep this page updated, but will also post regular updates on my Triathlete Dentist Facebook page, if you would like to be kept up to date with my progress: https://bit.ly/2LbveB8
