Story
When I retired after nearly 40 years on the Duxford Huntsman site I was aware I had to make conscious effort to keep active, as I could very easily slip into my lazyboy armchair reading books, exercising my mind not my body. Initially I was kept quite busy as my mother had been diagnosed with terminal cancer, bringing on dementia.
My youngest daughter Sarah works for the Arthur Rank Hospice in the charity shops, so we were very aware of the excellent work the hospice does and the acute need for fund raising. So after a long stay in Addenbrookes and the need for palliative care, there was only one place we wanted mother to go to. She was only in the hospice for a short time before she passed, but the staff took us in and acted in a professional and caring way, easing what could have been a very traumatic period.
I was made aware of the need for fundraising, for example it costs £1400 to keep the Day Therapy running for one day, £260 provides one nights Hospice at Home nursing care. In one of the quarterly news bulletins I saw one of the nurses, Clare Kitchener was taking on the Sahara challenge and was looking for others to accompany her. I thought this was a way to give something back but also give me the incentive to keep me out of my armchair, so I am now looking for your help to sponsor this fund raising challenge. Any donation however big or small will be gratefully accepted. Sadly we don’t appreciate the need for the Hospice services until we experience them first hand.)
Thanks
