Watching the very moving films from the Kibera slums in Nairobi for this year's Comic Relief underlined for me what a privilege it is to be linked to Karis Kids.  Karis Kids places orphaned children in the Kampala slums (Uganda) in families and supports the whole family. They have staff and church workers managing these links in in the city.  

The vision of Karis is to link families in UK with the adopting families in the Kampala slums and to link churches in UK with the local churches in the slums.  This provides pastoral support on the ground.  At Holy Trinity Richmond 18 groups of people (families and others) are sponsoring 18 families in the Katanga slum in Kampala.

The money from my marathon will help fund a summer camp in August run by Ugandans and supported by a team from UK.  The children from the support families in all of the linked slum areas are taken for a holiday to a school outside the slums for 4 days.  Activities include games, singing, crafts and Bible teaching.  Some of the money raised will also help with some travel costs for the UK team and other necessary one off costs for our families (eg beds, mosquito nets etc). Karis Kids is a charity that is making a difference for many children.  You can find more information on www.kariskids.org
