Trevor Atkinson = Great North Run 2011
Fundraising for Cancer Research UK
Fundraising for Cancer Research UK
As you may know, I started running again about 20 months ago with the aim to regain some fitness I had from my early youth.
I've not quite achieved that, but I have lost 20lb and started to feel a bit fitter.
To make best use of the time and energy spent so far, I have entered this year's Great North Run (GNR) with the intent to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The Great North Run is probably the world's largest half marathon, from Newcastle to South Shields. It has over 50,000 participants and will be held on 18th September and televised on the BBC.
As a student at Newcastle, I entered the first GNR in 1981 and subsequently ran the next 10 events. See attached the cover of the 1983 Results Booklet from the event with 25,000 runners. If you look very closely you will see a fresh faced Trevor Atkinson crossing the Tyne Bridge (in the green vest!!).
The sponsorship money raised will be matched by the Barclays £for£ scheme, so any contribution however small is welcome.
