Update (summer 2022): At long last we are about to take on the Sahara Rocks trek which will now take place in November 2022; we are in the final stages of fundraising and training for what could be our toughest challenge yet. We will be trekking almost 50km across the sand dunes of the Sahara, relying on our guides to find our way from camp to camp, and expecting searing heat in the day but close to freezing at night.
Sahara Rocks will be our next fund raising challenge - four days trekking in the Sahara Desert in Morocco to raise further funds for and awareness of the amazing work being done by Love Hope Strength, a charity that promotes innovative, music-related, outreach and awareness programmes for leukemia and cancer sufferers, survivors and their families.
We would like to thank the many of you who have supported our efforts already. We hope to raise yet further funds for the work of Love Hope Strength; the combined goal is to raise at least £35,000 for cancer care projects at home and in Africa. And as always, please be assured that we have personally covered all the associated costs so every penny you donate will go to the work of the charity.
As many of you will know, Julie developed a Love Hope Strength face covering range and additional hand crafted items to raise money throughout 2020. LHS wanted us to let you know that over £3,200 was raised for the Love Hope Strength Foundation through Julie’s endeavours. The funds raised (included in our total above) have supported a grant for the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), one of Love Hope Strength’s international partners. Through this Love Hope Strength grant, the UICC has been able to support five different hospitals and grass-roots organisations in underprivileged communities in Africa, Asia and South America. Thanks to the support we’ve been able to provide, these hospitals and patient support teams can now receive training, support and mentorship from leading experts in cancer control. We feel very fortunate that, at a time when hospitals and patient support groups across the globe are under incredible pressure, we have been able to help ensure that medical and nursing teams in cancer facilities can access additional resources to help them provide the very best care possible for people with cancer. We are determined to do more, and we hope we can have your support with that.
LHS was co-founded by acclaimed musician Mike Peters, who aims to save lives, one concert at a time, and give hope to families affected by cancer. The money raised through Sahara Rocks will support healthcare projects in Africa to help make LHS vision of a better world for people with cancer a reality. Over the past decade LHS has established the 'Get On The List' programme to help people with a blood cancer who need a second chance of life. To date LHS has registered over 250,000 people to international stem cell donor registries. Over 4,500 of those who've registered have been identified as potentially lifesaving matches. Over £1m has been raised globally to help support some of the most vulnerable people affected by cancer. LHS has equipped hospitals and community cancer services with new facilities and equipment in parts of the UK, US, Africa and Asia.
Thank you for your donations and support!!
