Story
On Friday 30 July members of our Family team are taking part in this year's ‘Walk for Wards Wherever You Are’ to help raise money for the Salisbury District Stars Appeal Hospital’s charity. The family team plan to walk 10km from Pitton to Salisbury Cathedral in July.
Recently one of the members of our Family team tragically had to rely on the Stars Appeal and wanted to raise money for a worthy cause.
Please read on to hear Steph’s story:
Following the loss of my baby niece after a tough battle with a rare cancer I knew instantly I wanted to raise money for The Stars Appeal and what better way to do it with my amazing Trethowans colleagues.
During the last 5 weeks of Scarlet’s life she was cared for by the amazing staff on The Sarum Ward at Salisbury Hospital. The Stars Appeal help fund many of their resources, that were very beneficial to Scarlet’s end of life care. By way of an example, the sensory room on the Sarum Ward was funded by donations to The Stars Appeal.
During Scarlet’s time in hospital we were able to spend time with her and make full use of this wonderful room. They also have a fabulous sensory trolley full of sparkly lights, a disco ball and a lava lamp which we were able to keep in Scarlet’s room to help make it so much brighter and feel cheery.
During her final weeks, Scarlet’s parents were able to stay with her by her side and make precious memories with her. Without donations to the Stars Appeal, they simply wouldn’t of been able to do this. From a room with a parent bed, to the dedicated parents flat, the outdoor play deck and visiting the wonderful onsite gardens. The hospital Chaplains even managed to give us the opportunity to have Scarlet christened at the onsite Chapel. Not forgetting that the Stars Appeal donations help towards the funding of the bereavement team and supporting the staff wellbeing.
For this reason I have chosen for the money to be donated specifically to The Sarum Ward to help make a difference.
Every day the Stars Appeal helps hundreds of patients across all wards and departments at Salisbury District Hospital and support the NHS staff who care for them. Not only do they help all the wards they also help provide:
- Free Wi-Fi
- Gardens and outdoor space
- Chaplaincy
- Art, music and theatre in hospital
- Christmas gifts and extras
- Bereavement suite
- Watercoolers & beverage trollies
Please sponsor our walkers as generously as you are able.
Many thanks for your support.
