Story
Welcome and thank you for visiting my fundraising page for Sugarplum charity’s trek- 100kms for 100 years of insulin. To celebrate 100 years of insulin- the life saving drug that has kept diabetics alive for the last 100 years- the team will embark on a 5 day trek spanning 100km through Wadi Rum, Jordan. It is a very exciting challenge to take on and whilst it won’t be easy it is your generosity that will make every second worth it.
Sugarplum Children, a charity for children with T1 Diabetes, offers the integral help, advice and community support that children and their parents need upon diagnosis. This support extends to relatives in which a basic understanding of the disease is a necessity. 100% of all money Sugarplum raises goes directly to JDRF, the worlds leading charitable funder for T1 diabetes research.
My diagnosis of T1 Diabetes came about in 2017. For most of the year, I was very sick and this ultimately led me to discover I was T1D. Sadly, like many people today, I did not recognise the symptoms of T1D nor the dangerous and fatal signs that I was experiencing through ‘diabetic ketoacidosis’. With the help of insulin, great doctors and the incredible support of friends and family, although foreign, I began my new life as a diabetic.
Diabetes is a very serious chronic illness and as such can prove an onerous journey, embedded with many ups and downs. It is therefore our hope not only to raise money for T1 diabetes research but to also raise much needed awareness for the difficulties a diabetic faces each day- especially children and their families. With your generosity and kindness, we are one step closer to doing just that.
