Ben Nevis Challenge · 31 July 2010
Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullai wa barakatuhu,
Hello and thanks for visiting my page.
I have recently plucked up the courage to take on a charity challenge! Me and a group of other charity driven individuals will be trekking Mount Ben Nevis in Scotland on 31st July. In the midst of the heat we will reach the highest point in the UK, but only after a punishing 6 hours. Our cause: Water Aid Project in Africa: The money will be used to build Wells in some of the poorest villages in Africa, where people can gain access to safe and clean water. Thousands of people catch diseases and die every day from drinking unsafe water. Amongst those diseases are Cholera, Typhoid fever, Dysentery, Brainerd diarrhea and helminths; a lot of which involves the multiplication of parasitic worms. When faced with a survival situation, clean drinkable water is the most important consideration. People have survived without food for weeks or even months, but water is much more crucial in survival and thus has several ill effects when withdrawing from it. More than 200 million hours are spent by African people each day in a desperate search for water. And much of the water found in this life-or-death search is tainted or diseased. According to the EPA, more than 4,500 Africans die each day from diseases caused by unsafe drinking water, with half of these deaths being children. “Thousands have lived without love, shelter and clothing; not one without water” It may mean a click of a button for you but it means surviving for others so much less fortunate than us; who value water so much we can only imagine. Just remember, every time someone drinks from these wells, along with the satisfaction you have given them, it is another act of charity for you- The Prophet (SAW) said: “If any Muslim plants something or sows seed from which a man...eats, it counts as charity for him” (Bukhari, Muslim) Please take a moment to remember the poor and recognise that you can make a difference. However big or small, every donation will be hugely appreciated.
JazakAllahu Khaiyr, Thank you!
