Story
I first became involved in fundraising when my late father developed vascular dementia.
It started with small signs where he forgot things or could not complete a sentence, we put this down to the fact that he was getting older. Dad had tests and it was confirmed he was in the early stages of vascular dementia. I became a dementia friend and took training on how to care and understand the cycle they go through.
As the disease progressed, dad had to give up driving and have carers in to support my mother as the brain can play funny games on your mind, what you see, hear and feel. We ensured dad got out and about and kept his brain active. After nearly 9 years, we lost our dear dad to this disease.
To this day, I am still very upset that the best dad, father and grandfather in the world developed vascular dementia. It doesn’t discriminate and has struck people as young as 30 years old.
For those of you who have had a relative or friend, you will understand why we need to raise money for the Alzheimer’s society.
Although I am a little nervous about this walk, nothing will stop me from raising awareness and money to combat this disease.
I appreciate times are tough for many people but if you can spare a few pounds, it will be much appreciated.
Thank you for your donation. If you would like to know more about becoming a Dementia Friend or Champion, please go to Alzheimer website.
Thank you
