Story
I am walking 13 miles in the rugged terrain of the Peak District for Alzheimer’s Society, a charity close to my heart, with the mission to support those with Dementia and their families.
Leo's grandmother, Joyce, a retired headteacher and Guide leader, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and now requires 24-hour nursing care. As a family, they are experiencing first-hand the affect that this disease is having on Joyce and those close to her. The Peak District, especially Bakewell, is an area that my mum loved to visit with the Guides which makes this walk so special.
Dementia is one of the main causes of disability later in life. In the the UK alone, 209,600 people will develop dementia this year, which is equivalent to someone every three minutes. Dementia research is desperately underfunded so fundraising is so important.
