Story
In August 2017 I lost my dear and much loved Mother, Doreen, to vascular dementia after an epic 3½ year battle with my Father, Peter, acting as her sole carer over all that time. She suffered with courage and dignity to the very end , supported by her devoted husband throughout it all. Their courage during all of this was an inspiration to those around them.
Since then I have also lost my Aunt, Mum's sister, Jean, and my Cousin, Jean's daughter, Lesley, to this terrible disease.
After the last 2 years of lockdowns, isolation, WFH and restrictions on our lives as a result of another terrible disease, I wanted to do something to shake off the cobwebs and remove some of the "Covid curves" and "lockdown lumps". This seemed like the perfect way to do that.
In 2018 the family took part in an Alzheimer's Society Memory Walk and we raised collectively nearly £3,500 for AS in Mum's name. My Father donates all profits from the online sale of wooden pens he makes as a hobby to AS and this has pushed the total raised as a family to over £6,000 to date. I hope to add to that total with this challenge.
Please give all that you can for this very worthy cause that is close to my and my families hearts and support me as I walk a marathon distance around our great capital city on 28 May 2022. The initial target is £300 but I am sure with your help and support I can smash that.
Many Thanks
Andy
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
