Story
On 4th September 2021 (date rescheduled), Mark and I will be walking 26 miles to raise funds for research into Alzheimer’s disease - a cause which is very close to our hearts since my mother was diagnosed a few years ago. Any money you can spare to support us and encourage us on is very much appreciated and will go to a very good cause.
Covid restrictions allowing, we will be part of an organised / supported event following a route up Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons. If that is not possible for any reason, we will walk the 26 miles from home across Cannock Chase instead. (Covid restrictions dictated a delay of 2 months which we have decided to take since the event is not completely cancelled and our training has shown us that 26 miles with climb is a much bigger challenge than 26 miles on the chase)
I am a firm believer in only asking for sponsorship if you are doing something that actually requires effort. Whilst i would love to participate in a sponsored sleepathon or readathon......I think you’ll agree that walking a marathon up a rather large mountain is a genuine challenge. I can, and have, walked 13 miles before. In my younger / fitter / lighter weight days. And even then I was exhausted and couldn‘t have considered turning around and doing the whole thing again.
At time of writing, we have 15 weeks to train for this event. We just managed an 11 mile walk, so all we need to do is increase by a mile a week and we’re sorted. That’s how this works, right??
