Story
So, now that I’m in my 50th year, it seems I’ve decided to take on the rather large challenge of walking 26 miles in the Brecon Beacons. Although I’ve (just about) managed 26 mile walks before, they have not included climbing the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons. I know this is going to be a tough one, so I shall need all the support I can get.
1 in 6 people over 80 have dementia and someone develops dementia every 3 minutes in the UK. Alzheimers and vascular dementia are the two main forms.
Isolation and loneliness, either at home or in homes, has been far worse for our older people through the restrictions and this makes me very sad. Many are also dealing with the heartbreaking effects of this illness; such a cruel condition that takes away so much from so many people and their families.
Alzheimer’s Society works to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice, until a cure is found. I’d like to support their work for people with dementia - only in a small way, but many small acts can make a big difference.
Walking in nature - noticing our world and the life in it, being amongst trees and plants and taking time out for fresh air and exercise - can make a real difference to our mental health. It has definitely made a difference to mine.
Any donations, no matter how small, to this cause are gratefully received and will help boost my training and my confidence.
Thanks so very much folks ❤️ 🙏
