Story
So, the birthday comes round again. I was soo lucky to be able to celebrate it last year - never thought we’d be in lockdown by January ‘21! But we are. No get together with friends and family this year, but to celebrate and step up my lockdown walking, I’ve decided to raise money to fight dementia and set myself a challenge to boot.
1 in 6 people over 80 have dementia and someone develops dementia every 3 minutes in the UK. Alzheimers and vascular dementia are the two main forms.
Isolation and loneliness, either at home or in homes, has been far worse for our older people through the restrictions and this makes me very sad. Many are also dealing with the heartbreaking effects of this illness; such a cruel condition that takes away so much from so many people and their families.
Alzheimer’s Society works to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice, until a cure is found. I’d like to support their work for people with dementia - only in a small way, but many small acts can make a big difference.
Walking in nature - noticing our world and the life in it, being amongst trees and plants and taking time out for for fresh air and exercise - can make a real difference to our mental health. It has definitely made a difference to mine.
But it’s some years since I’ve walked this many miles in a day - and I’m not sure it was Brecon Beacons terrain! Any small donations to this cause are gratefully received and will help boost my training gung-ho..
Thanks so very much folks ❤️ 🙏
