Story
My father was a kind, loving, and extremely fun person; the life and soul of any party or family gathering. He spent over 60 years married to my mother Ellen and was a loving father to my brothers and I, and later grandfather to my daughters and their two cousins. He lived with dementia for over 10 years and when he finally passed away, sadly no longer remembered the names and the faces of the family he loved. Dementia is a cruel disease that slowly takes away the person you know and love and whilst there is still no cure, many families like ours will continue to watch beloved family members fade away every year.
Together with my good friends, Nicky, Chris, and I was taking part in the Alzheimer's Society's 13 mile trek in the Brecon Beacons on 3rd July 2021 to raise money and awareness for this Charity and all they do. The official Trek has been postponed due to Covid restrictions in Wales. However we have decided to go ahead on our own with the help of our guide Nick Yudin.
Alzheimer’s Society is working to transform the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, they will continue to help create a society where those affected by dementia are supported, accepted and able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
