Story
What am I doing? I am running the Mamores half trail Marathon in the Scotland on the 8th of September. The Mamores half marathon is an off-road trail race of 21.1K and a 600+ meters of total incline...
Why am I doing this? I am running as part of the Running for PREVENT Dementia Research Programme Around the World Challenge. Together with many other runners, I hope to raise awareness of dementia and funds for dementia research. From February 2019 to February 2010, between us, we will cover a combined distance of 40,075 km; the equivalent to running all the way around the equator of the earth. All my training runs for the Mamores Half will count towards this goal.
How can I help? By donating money to the PREVENT Dementia Research Programme via this page, or by running and joining the PREVENT Dementia Around the World challenge. You can join the challenge even if you live outside of Scotland or The UK. It is as simple as joining our Strava group or emailing your weekly mileage to the PREVENT team.
For more information visit https://edin.ac/PREVENT or contact Neil on prevent@ed.ac.uk or 0131657661.
Why should I support this cause? Fifty million people around the world live with dementia. Tackling the diseases that lead to dementia will require an effort of enormous magnitude and global research. Fundraising is essential to fuel this vital research. We believe our fundraising efforts should mirror the mammoth scale of this challenge.
Where, specifically, will the money go? Every penny raised will support the PREVENT Dementia Research Programme led from the University of Edinburgh. The goal of this research programme is to find new ways to detect the earliest changes in the brain long before symptoms appear. The aim is to predict who is at the greatest risk of dementia and develop strategies to intervene and slow down or prevent the disease.
